What is physical therapy?

Physical therapy is medical treatment approach that addresses pain and functional limitations caused by various medical conditions and injuries.

The Quince Orchard Medical Center physical therapy team will assess your condition and create a custom treatment plan based on your individual symptoms, health history, and personal goals.

Am I a good candidate for physical therapy?

If you have an injury or condition that causes pain, physical limitations, or a loss of mobility, you’re probably a good candidate for physical therapy. At Quince Orchard Medical Center, the team prescribes physical therapy for patients suffering from conditions such as:

  • Fractures
  • Sports injuries
  • Arthritis
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sciatica
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Knee pain
  • Hip pain

You might also benefit from physical therapy if you’re involved in an automobile or work-related accident.

How do I prepare for physical therapy?

To get the most out of physical therapy, it’s important that you adequately prepare. Please be sure to bring any medical records including your prescription medication list and any x-ray or MRI reports related to the condition that your physical therapist will be evaluating. Please also provide any medical prescriptions or referrals for physical therapy provided by your referring physician.

It’s also important to discuss your goals for treatment. Tell your physical therapist what you hope to achieve at the conclusion of your physical therapy plan of care.

What happens during physical therapy?

Physical therapy uses several techniques to decrease stiffness and pain and improve your range of motion, strength, and mobility.

The Quince Orchard Medical Center team prides themselves on providing in-depth personal attention to each patient. Your 30-minute session includes individual one-on-one treatment with your therapist.

Your treatment plan may include manual therapy, light stretching, therapeutic exercise, strengthening, neuromuscular rehabilitation, balance training, functional training, body mechanics training and may be accompanied by the application of modalities including ice or heating therapy, ultrasound or electrical muscular stimulation. Your treating clinician will also provide you with a comprehensive, progressive home exercise program to facilitate your recovery.

To achieve the best possible results, it’s important to participate in all your physical therapy plan of care as recommended by your referring physician and physical therapist.
